Founded by Doug Hathaway, who brings over 25 years of experience in the trade, Hathaway’s Carpentry & Joinery is a family-run business based in South East London, with a recently opened workshop in Bristol. Doug's longstanding commitment to craftsmanship, quality and sustainability is at the heart of everything we do.
We offer a reliable, quality-focused service, covering all aspects of bespoke carpentry and joinery. Whether it’s a fully fitted kitchen, built-in wardrobes or intricate woodwork, every project is approached with precision, care and attention to detail.
Our approach is always customer-centric. We aim to cause as little disruption to your home or lifestyle as possible. Much of our preparatory work is carried out off-site in our workshop, allowing us to arrive ready to fit and finish with minimal mess. We are always respectful of your space, and we make sure to clean up as we go.
We are fully insured, with comprehensive public liability cover for your peace of mind.
Sustainability is a key part of our ethos. We carefully select high-quality materials and source our timber from merchants who carry FSC (UK) and PEFC (European) chain of custody certification — including sustainable MDF options. Wherever possible, we aim to recycle waste, and we believe in repairing and maintaining before replacing.
How We Work
Our Process: Simple, Friendly & Reliable
1. Enquiry Received
We’ll get in touch to arrange a convenient time to visit your property.
2. On-Site Visit
We meet in person, view the space, discuss your needs, budget and any special requirements.
3. Planning & Visuals
Measurements and photos are taken. We talk through materials, finishes, colours and timing.
4. Quotation & Timeline
You'll receive a clear quote along with an estimated time frame for the work.
5. Design Review
Sketches are sent over – the perfect time for final tweaks before confirming the design.
6. Booking the Job
Once agreed, we offer a start date. Projects are booked on a first come, first served basis.
Quotes are valid for 3 months.
Advance bookings are welcome – perfect for holidays or specific schedules.
A deposit is required for projects booked months in advance to secure your slot.
